Tuesday Teaser is a weekly bookish meme (rhymes with “cream"), hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. (I’ve borrowed it from LDS Women’s Book Review.) Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share at least two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR lists if they like your teasers!
I’m adapting the rules slightly: I’ll be quoting some random lines from the last chapter I read before I post my teaser. I'm a slow reader, so you'll probably get multiple teasers for this book. Here is the first teaser for The Last Enchantment:
Arthur turned sharply on his heel and came back to stand in front of me. He had taken off the crown and jewelled chain, and laid his sword aside, but he still wore the splendid coronation robe. The furred cloak lay across the table like a stream of blood in the lamplight.

I read the Mary Stewart Arthur books when I was newly married. I enjoyed them but I don't think I could read them again--so much introspection. Generally, I don't care what an author is writing about (even instrospection) as long as I enjoy her writing voice--but it did get to be even a bit too much for me.

I think there was more action and less introspection in The Crystal Cave than in the two follow-up books. I've read the Crystal Cave happily several times, but The Hollow Hills felt less satisfying to me, and I find I'm doing a lot of skimming to get to the "story" in The Last Enchantment.
Thanks, Aleksandra! There's a good story buried between all the introspection/narrative sections in The Last Enchantment. I'm just having to skim through to find it. :-)
