Medieval Word of the Day

When we think of a romance today, this is what we usually think of:

But in the Middle Ages, a Romance was: a long, narrative tale recounting marvelous adventures and deeds of chivalry. While some romances had heroes and heroines falling in love, not all of them did. "Love" was not what made a romance a romance in the Middle Ages!

Click here to learn how you can win a copy of Cami Checketts' romantic suspense novel, Sisters Pact! Deadline to enter is Sunday night at midnight PST!

Oh my word! Where did you get that artwork of the silhouette couple? I drew that ages ago when I was doing freelance graphic work for Word Perfect Magazine. It has been altered, it was originally more detailed and wasn’t so choppy around the edges, but I’d know my work anywhere. Don’t worry, I’m not upset. I’m fairly certain that image was stolen a long time ago. I just think it’s funny and secretly like seeing it pop up occasionally on the internet. I’ve also been really ENYOYING your medieval words for the day. Thanks for doing it!

Mon Chéri!

I'm sooo sorry if I've used some artwork I shouldn't have! I found it on http://www.wpclipart.com/ which advertises itself as a public domain website. (http://www.wpclipart.com/legal.html)

If you want me to take the picture down I will, or I can give you credit for it if you want me to. Just let me know!

Don't be sorry at all. Really! And please don't take it down!! I'm not sure I want credit for it since they changed it so much. But I will be contacting wpclipart to see where they got it. I have the original I can send to them proving it was mine. But, I'll be honest, it is kind of fun seeing it show up on the web occasionally. So please don’t feel bad and I want you to keep it up. You're awesome Joyce, I love your books and blog.

Thanks, Mon Chéri! And I love your picture, even if it's been "altered". I'll bet the original was amazing! :-)

Not to change the subject which i want to add, your website is beautiful, i also see my photo fiction art photos posted across the internet and i am proud because if something, photos are posted on the net, they should be fair game unless it is clearly marked ©. Art is art and true art is free. Mind to brush to canvas. Eye-camera-filmpaper. All are welcome to use my photos and my name and date can be taken off with paint shop pro 7 are like programs. i am crippled with parkinsons disease and i do not produce meany paintings any longer but what ever i produce is FREE. Thank you, Dr Doc, but I do believe that unless art is specifically marked as "free clip art" (always checking the particular website's definition of "free") or is in the public domain, all artwork is legally copyrighted by the art's creator, just as a novel would be, whether there is a copyright notice accompanying the artwork or not. I do try to be very careful that I'm using pictures/images that are either in the public domain or specifically advertised as "free" on the websites I use, but as Mon Chéri has shown, sometimes errors can creep in.

My favorite children's books are by Dr. Suess - any one of them. I also love "The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein - as the message is good for adults as well as children - in anytime or place.
