Back to the Books Giveaway Hop

I'll announce the winner of the Awesome August Blog Hop tomorrow. But while you're waiting to see if your name is going to appear on JDP NEWS, you can start hopping all over again to win more prizes! Over 300 prizes, actually! Today begins the Back to the Books Giveaway Hop, sponsored by I Am A Reader, Not a Writer and Buried in Books.

This time around I'm giving away a copy of the YA novel, Flame-Coloured Tafetta, by Rosemary Sutcliff. This is the book that sent me on the hunt for more titles by Sutcliff and led to what is currently still my favorite book that I've read this year: The Eagle of the Ninth. Don't you love it when you stumble across wonderful new authors you never knew existed? Here's the blurb from the book jacket (this is a hardcover book):

When twelve-year-old Damaris discovers a young man who has been shot in the woods near her house, she doesn't stop to worry that he may be a smuggler or spy wanted by King George's Custom House men. Instead she turns to those she can trust--her best friend, Peter, and Genty Small the Wise Woman--for help in saving his life. And after Tom Wildgoose recovers enough to be able to talk about himself, but chooses to be evasive when answering Damaris's questions, she doesn't really mind. What is important to Damaris is that he will be leaving soon, taking away all the adventure and mystery he had suddenly brought into her life.

But then Tom is captured by Mr. Farrington, who threatens to turn him over to the authorities. In a true act of loyalty, Damaris jeopardizes her own safety to rescue the mysterious young man and set him free once again.

If this sounds like a book you'd like to win, then leave me a comment telling me the name of a favorite new author you've read in the last 12 months. INCLUDE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS SO I CAN CONTACT YOU IF YOU WIN.

  26. I'd love to win that book! Sutcliff is one of the few authors whose books I would buy instantly on her name alone, so long as I have the cash, but I haven't gotten to Flame-Colored Taffeta yet. If I win, send me a message at dameonstarwind@yahoo.com. +)

Let's see, my favorite of the authors I have discovered in the past 12 months...well, I'd have to say G.K. Chesterton for that. His essays and short stories are brilliant in the way they show you reality in a completely different, and slightly wild, light. He was one of the greatest practitioners of British wit around the turn of the 20th century, yet his writing is so fresh and lively even now. I just started reading him late last year, and I can tell you, it's addicting. I can't wait to move on to his longer books.

  38. Oh, WOW! I can't believe I found this giveaway. I've been wanting to read a Rosemary Sutcliff book for several months and haven't had a chance to get my hands on one of her books.... it would be stunning to win one for free!

To get on with my entry...
My newest favorite author is Miss Read. She wrote the most delightful series, even though I've only read 1 book. It's about a simple schoolteacher living in Scotland...it's just the perfect story!
